Shirley Swain is a girl that just can’t say no! From walking on hot coals, running a marathon to leading more than 200 hundred soldiers in a giant aerobic class, there's no doubt that Shirl the girl has got more get up and go than a kangaroo on red bull.

"Phew, I'm all exhausted just reading all of that, but to be honest, that colourful background of activities is usually because I've been roped in to raising money for charity. Not that I would ever say no - there are some great charities out there and I've loved every minute".

After years moving around with the British Forces, Shirley first got involved with radio when she was recruited as a local reporter by BFBS, the British Forces Broadcasting Service.

"I had absolutely no experience, so couldn't quite believe they gave me the job - having said that, the fact that I'm a bit of a chatter box might have had something to do with it,"

Since then, Shirley has worked in hospital, community and commercial radio, as well as writing articles for various publications.

"I can't tell you how fantastic it is to be involved in the launch and future of Andover Sound - it's been a long time coming! Andover is a great town, packed with equally great people and I just can't wait to meet as many of them as possible."

Privately, Shirley loves to eat chips and drink champagne (not necessarily at the same time!) and says that running keeps her sane as well as fit.
