Andover College students are getting ready to take us on a trip through musical time.
Students are staging a concert next week called 'Top of the Pops Through The Ages' where they'll play well known songs from the last six decades.
The 1950s will kick off proceedings with Jonny B Good amongst others. They'll then play tracks from the Beatles and Dire Straights before arriving in the present day with Paramore.
There will be four bands performing with students from the BTEC First Diploma, BTEC National Diploma and BTEC National Award courses. Accompanying their musical colleagues will be the College's drama students who have choreographed a number of routines to perform on the evening.
Rebecca Lyon, music lecturer at the College, says: "This really is a terrific show. The students are very talented and this is a great opportunity for them to showcase both their musical ability and the Music Academy at Andover College.
"We just thought 'Top of the Pops' was a great way of hitting a lot of criteria that we have to cover and the students need to learn what it's like to perform to a big audience so it's a great opportunity for them."
Sean Wiggins is one of the students taking part: "The older students have performed because we were here last year and do final projects but for some of them it's their first time on a big stage. You still get nervous on the night but as you lead up to it you're a bit more relaxed."
The is being held at John Hanson School on Thursday 18th March. Doors open at 6.30pm and tickets costing £3 per adult and £1.50 for concessions are available at Andover College reception. |
