An Andover company has beaten the odds to walk away from the Dragons Den with a huge investment and a mutil-millionaire backer.
Dennis Fuller from Golfers Mate appeared on the BBC Two programme last night which showed him picking up £100,000 from James Caan.
It was looking bad for Dennis when four of the five Dragons said they were ‘out' after he presented his golfer's all in one pitch repairer, ball marker and pencil sharpener.
But right at the end he was handed a lifeline and struck the deal.
Dennis and his business partners gathered to watch the show with friends and family at the Tidworth Garrison Golf Club on Monday night.
Andover Sound's Ben McGrail went along to join them and spoke to Dennis after the programme. He said: "It was the most intimidating experience I've ever had in my life. When you see four Dragons just dismiss it you start to think 'have I got this all wrong?' Then the last one offers this glimmer of hope. It was a strange experience!
"It is a local thing - I'm delighted with the support we've had from local people. Please God we'll make a few quid. We're not going to make fortunes out of it but we'll make a few quid and everyone will be happy."
It's a bit of a change of director for Dennis who currently owns an employment agency. He says James was the Dragon he wanted: "It's wrong really to say this but I'm delighted because he actually started his life in the employment business. To get somebody in the business that actually understands cash flows the way he does and he has expertise in retail as well is great.
"He's gone on and done other things and if I wasn't so old I would have gone on and done other things as well!"
