John Hanson Community School on Floral Way has picked up a record pass rate with nearly three quarters of pupils now passing at least five GCSEs with a minimum of a C grade. With maths and English included the figure stands at 57%.
Head teacher Richard Butler said: "I'm absolutely delighted. I'm delighted on two levels. On the first level we've got some exceptional individual performances from the students but collectively we've made another huge step forward as a school and we're getting closer to being that outstanding school that we want to be in the future.
"We've moved very quickly from being an adequate school, in terms of our results, to being a good school now. We are very well-placed and this is another milestone on our journey."
