Hope for Thruxton Fireworks
Tuesday 14th July 2009

One of North West Hampshire's biggest events could be rescued.

The famous family fireworks event at Thruxton has been under threat after one of the organising groups, the Rotary Club, said they didn't have the funds or manpower to put it on.

However the Andover Round Table club have said they still want it to happen and will be trying hard to make sure it does.

Chairman Nigel Baxendale says: "We've had various partners over the years and are obviously sad that Rotary may not be our joint partner this year but certainly we'll be doing everything we can to run the event. If we can find local sponsors to help us fund the event then that's fantastic and also we need resources to help us with simple things like the car parking and ticket sales so there are bits we need to get in place but none of them are insurmountable."

If you feel your organisation or business can help go to Andover Round Table's website.

Bernice Wall of We are the funfair that attends this event each year says:

"I am sure they many people who often brave bad weather and travel a good distance to this event would be greatly let down if it fails to continue. We have supported this event with our funfair from the very start and it is a wonderful event . May be a new venue nearer to Andover might be an idea, how about the wolworth estate playing fields , on a public safety order I would think the Test Valley Council would be glad to provide the venue free and also sponsor the event , to promote family safety at this time of the year. There is ample clear roads for cars to park along but a free bus servie would work very well. I would welcome the chance to speak to someone regarding our donation for this years event ,a new venue could open up this event for more sponsorship I am sure , would either Nigel or someone please make contact with me by email oe on 07766115320. I wait to hear from you Bernice Wall"
