An Andover councillor has urged local mums-to-be not to panic about the future of town's birth centre.
It was revealed last week that the service isn't being used enough and is costing too much money.
Cllr Pat West chairs Hampshire's Health Overview & Scrutiny Committee at the County Council and has asked the Chief Executive of the NHS Trust to explain the situation to them.
She says it's very early stages though: "Nothing has been decided as yet. They do have to come and quantify to the Health Overview & Scrutiny Committee why they're taking a decision.
"If the actual birthing part has to close I really would expect them to maintain all the other services that go with it. We do have a duty to mums in the future and young citizens. Many young people are proud to say they were born in Andover."
