Esther Rantzen and 'The Pride of Andover Awards' are returning for a third year to recognise the unsung heros in our community who make North West Hampshire a better place to live.
In the past these awards have recognised people like Joan Parsonage from Ludgershall who fostered nearly two hundred children and started the visits to the UK by youngsters affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
Last year they singled out Betty Balcombe from Weyhill. She was given the 'Good Neighbour' award. She says that although she's not been after recognition, it's nice to be thought of: "I feel it's gratitude - it's nice for someone to say "thank you".
"At first I felt embarrased about it. But now it is very rewarding and it gives you the incentive to know that there's people out there that really appreciate what's being done for them."
The awards are made possible through sponsorship from local companies Simplyhealth and Stannah. This year Andover Sound has joined the list of supporters, which also include the The Andover Advertiser, Andover Vision and Testway Housing.
