On 2nd July 2009 a group of children, parents and staff from one Andover secondary school took on the challenge of a lifetime!

25 Harrow Way students, along with 7 adults took part in an Iron Man Triathlon - that saw 2 teams swimming 2.4, cycle 112 miles and then take on a marathon run between them.

They've been training for the last nine months for the activities, going along to sessions before school twice a week.

Elaine Escritt, from the school's PE department put them through their paces and says it's done more than just making the pupils fitter: "Year 11s particularly this year have actually come in on the morning of exams and they've felt they've performed better in them.

"Their physical, mental and social wellbeing have all improved and it's provide huge benefits. They're fitter, they've noticed weight loss and they've increased their self esteem."

It was all organised by Testway Transform. The project was developed by Testway's Paula Deverill with the aim of getting students to take control of their fitness, health and wellbeing.

The students got sponsored for taking part and the money they raised was split between the school to buy new sports equipment, and Testway Transform, a fund that helps community groups. Since it started in November 2007, it has given £56,000 to help 53 groups.

Finally it was time for a marathon length walk (sadly the heat meant it was too dangerous to run) at Harrow Way School.
