North West Hampshire's MP believes the law needs to change to protect homeowners.
Sir George Young has been speaking after Andover man Roberto Ranieri was cleared of murder and manslaughter on Tuesday.
He said he was defending his family against 38 year old Steven Griffiths who was killed by a stab wound.
Sir George says something has to change: "I think there is a feeling at the moment that the law is not fairly balanced and that it's weighted too much towards to the offender rather than the victim.
"We just think we need to recalibrate the system, so it's much clearer that somebody who is protecting their property and their family won't be prosecuted so long as they don't use 'grossy disproportionate action'". |
