Budding soldiers in North West Hampshire who don't want the commitment of officially signing up to the armed forces can find out more about getting involved tonight.
A new Territorial Army squadron is being set up in Middle Wallop, and a recruitment evening's being held to attract more members.
The role of the group will be to help with the maintenance of helicopters - re-fuelling them up to Formula One speed as well as loading rockets and missiles.
Captain Neil Jennings says their work could also involve going out on operations: "The regiment's responsibility is to provide replacements to deploy on operations or exercises wherever the regular Army need them, and most people are fully aware of Afghanistan.
"The guys that are trained up will be called a FARP team - or Forward Arming and Re-Fuelling Points, that depoly out to wherever the regular Army need to be re-armed and re-fuelled."
If you'd like to find out more, the recruitment evening takes place at the Museum of Army Flying between 7.30pm and 9.30pm. |
