With A Levels out last week and GCSEs this week we want to know what you think about education in Andover.
Schools in the town and Andover College seem to be improving but are they good enough?

"If I am honest,I totally agree with the 'Ex yr 11 student' comment below. It was exactly the same when I was there. They only seemed to really bother the week before Ofstead came in. Schools in andover are shocking and deffo need improving! Probably a contributing factor to why we have so many chavs in andover!!! :/" |

"Just come from winton, they say studentys matter. but its a load of rubbish. The day BEFORE Ofsted came to school, the told us our target grades etc etc so that we knew what to say when they asked us so winton would get a good reputation. Really i think ogfsted should have surprise inspeactions so they can see the true colours of the school. " |

"Erm, it just shows how easy the exams are these days! Bring back the old fashioned 'O' levels i say! 'Ben of 17 tiles drive', you've just had a mental breakdown, done your exams over several years and think you're doing o.k? Now come back down to Earth and try getting a job where your exam results, your hard work etc, counts, cause they are scarce. There is hardly anything out there for the youth of today. FACT" |

"Hi...
I came from Winton school and have just finished my final year at Andover College and I have to say that the schools and colleges, from my experience, are excellent. During my final two years at Winton, its grades were poor and it had to change. However the support for me was always there and teachers were always willing to help; I am so pleased that the school is finally getting the grades is deserves - it is an excellent school and provides a learning environment that most other schools would struggle to match.
For Andover College, I only have good things to say from my time there. The teaching and management staff are absoutley fantastic, and would bend over backwards to support the students there. Andover College has never been a particularly bad college, but its recent success which is bettering year on year, and its incredible pass rates and grades are proving that it is rapidly turning into one of the south's best colleges. I honestly think that the education facilities in Andover easily provide tough competition for others in the south; when you consider that Andover is only a small market town, it makes the facilities we have even more impressive - how has such a small town come to have such a leading array of educational facilities? Andover is lucky to have what it does in terms of learning providers." |

"On the day of Cllr David Kirks Funeral... I can think of no more fitting tribute to him, than to say... All children who do well, show that education is the answer ~ and if you try and keep trying, to do your own personal best ~ no one can ask for more ~ You are all winners if you try...
No Matter What Grades You Get.
Every head in Andover should be proud of what their schools have been able to achieve...Every student is a credit to their school~ if they try...Manuela." |

"People slag off our schools but the stats show they're improving. Too many parents send their kids to Clere or other schools outside the town and don't support the local schools. I think what the heads at winton, john hanson and harrowway are doing is great and the year on year improvements show that education is on the up in Andover." |

"State education in Andover is poor, some schools such as Winton are improving but many are coasting along. Andover college can't offer a wide enough range of courses such as languages as the feeder schools don't teach it. Brighter pupils will end up traveling to Winchester & Basingstoke for a decent further education. " |
