Talking Point / Talking Point - Parking Charges
Talking Point - Parking Charges
Thursday 10th December 2009

The full extent of planned increases in car parking charges in Andover has been revealed.

The cost of parking for 2 or 3 hours in some town centre car parks is set to shoot up by an inflation-busting 16%.

If the increases are approved, the 2 hour charge will go from £1.20 to £1.40, and the 3 hour from £1.90 to £2.20.

How do you feel about the proposed increases? Leave your comments below.

"Why dont people park in the 30 minute, 1 hour or 2 hours bays that are FREE and doted around town??"

"i can't drive yet but it stupid To charge to park some where It more money It really ant worth drivnig if you can pay less to use buses I know i ant rushing to buy a car when im older enought to drive anyway how old do you have to be to drive?"

John Newell of Andover says:

"I live 0.25 from the town centre and I never cease to be amazed by certain healthy neighbours who always drive to the town centre; it literally takes the same time to drive & park as it does to walk in. BTW If I'm in a hurry or have to buy anything heavy I drive in as well."

John of Whitchurch says:

"Why pay parking charges? Catch a bus."

Lucy GoLikely of Andover says:

"Great. I work in the town centre and have to have my car to get to work every day. You would think that the council would recognise that we are in a economic crisis, with familys on a much lesser income than previous years..all the "extra pennies" make a huge difference. I have to pay between £100 to £130 each month to park. I think its a joke..oh well..Tesco Blue Stripe for me...thanks alot...Another reason to hate this town again....Oh..and a cut in the business rates would be nice too..to actually encourage decent establishments into the high street. I don't think I can stomach another Pub, betting shop or everything for a £1 tat shop. Thanx Andover Councillors..your doing a grand job! what a joke."

"Well at least we know it wasn't the parking charges that have stopped Prezzo's coming to town ;)"

Vince of Andover says:

"Another knife in the back of Andover town centre. One wonders why the council are trying to kill it off so badly, they have all but destroyed our once vibrant market, closed our Guildhall, the centre of this VILLAge now seems to be the roundabout by Tesco's !!! can we put a new Guidhall on there please so we can stay a town ??"

Rob of Andover says:
21:12  on  Thursday 10th December 2009
"All right for Jack sorry mean Barbera, oviously she lives either right in town or on a good bus route, some people need a car as they are miles away from any bus route"

Barbara Carpenter of Andover says:

"LEAVE THE CAR AT HOME AND USE THE BUSES.CHEAPER ALL ROUND."

Alan Resident of Andover says:

"Ultimately it's an extra 10p an hour which people will moan about but will still pay and TVBC knows this. Yes it is extra money and no we shouldn't have to be paying it but it's still cheaper to park for 2 hours than have a coffee in most of the cafes in Andover. Want to avoid it? At the moment you can park after 4pm for nothing."

Peter of Andover says:
12:07  on  Thursday 10th December 2009
"Good idea Carlosky, however the Councill are trying to save money Not spend more on installing,a pay as you leave system, further if the current Council stopped wasting tax payers money on unimportant follies, there could be more monies avalible for future development,in my opinion it is the man at the top who is to blame for the problems that Andover is facing. "

Carlosky of Andover says:

"I understand that the Council need to make extra money from parking to cover other expenses. I feel that this town needs to gain some pay on exit car parks - particularly george yard and the chantry, then people can shop for however long they want without the need to worry about when they need to get back to their car."

Robin Toates of Luggershall says:

"I fink it a gud idea. dis town needs 2 buk up nd bring morre peeps 2 the town 2 shop. i dont mind paing xtra 2 park up it wuld b nice if i culd drive dat wuld help! ;) i just dnt c wot the problum is wiv raysing prices up a few pense"
