Talking Point / Talking Point - Privacy
Talking Point - Privacy
Monday 6th September 2010

Politics and the media spotlight go hand-in-hand. But does the media go too far sometimes?

This week's Talking Point is all about privacy. North West Hampshire's MP believes politicians, and specifically MPs, should be left alone by the media unless what they are doing conflicts with their job and the information is in the public interest.

But what do you think? Tell us by leaving a comment below.

David Borrett of Andover says:
19:36  on  Saturday 11th September 2010
"It's a very fine line. When we are asked to vote for a politician we have to base our choice on both their ability to do the job and their character. Indeed, they often invoke their model private lives as a reason for us to elect them. As MPs claim to act according to their conscience in the House, we as electors need to be able to assess the principles that guide them. If an MP cheats on his wife he is just as likely to cheat on his electors too. "

curtis57 of 5 minutes from radio station says:
00:12  on  Friday 10th September 2010
"These MP's are answerable to the voters full stop and should not treat us as idiots like they do! what they do in their posh homes paid for by the tax payers does not concern but when office acting on our behalf's then this another thing! & is answerable to the public? full stop? "

Peter Mather of Andover says:
18:04  on  Thursday 9th September 2010
"IF you are in the public eye, then you are open to ridicule, if they don't like the heat then get out of the kitchen."

steve schofield of cricketers way says:
19:12  on  Tuesday 7th September 2010
"How dare they demand privacy, we the public are spied on and tagged on a daily basis the government at all levels can spy at will, you should get complete privacy when we do."

Southern Boy of Andover says:
12:12  on  Monday 6th September 2010
"They have choosen to stand in the public eye, often they have spouted off on morality like a certain politician in Romsey and then have no shame about it and the public has no way of redressing it. They need to be open, accountable and sackable. If not how are we to believe a word the say. no wonder people dont vote and dont care. "

Jenny Balchin of Roman Way says:
10:41  on  Monday 6th September 2010
"Everyone has a right to their privacy including MP's, I'm not interested in their private lives, just the way they run the country,. So what if they are gay, separating from partners etc., that's their business and, unless it affects the job they are doing then they should be left alone!"
