After six weeks of consultation, voters have said 'yes' to a town council for Andover.
However the turnout figures were disappointingly low. Almost 4,500 consultation papers were sent back to Test Valley Borough Council, which only works out as 15% turnout of all the people registered to vote.
Of those replies, 61% were in favour of an Andover Town Council.
That could represent the current wards of Alamein, Harroway, Millway, Winton and St Mary's - residents in the latter were the most enthusiastic about the idea, with seventy percent voting yes.
There were a number of other options for voters which included enhanced powers for the Andover Councillors Forum and the setting up of Community Associations. However these all received more 'no' votes than 'yes' votes.
Tony Raper is the chairman of the Campaign for an Andover Town Council. He said: "There was a clear 'Yes' vote in all five wards, and every one of the supposed alternatives was decisively voted down, including the suggestion of separate parish councils for each ward and the absurd idea that the councillors' forum could somehow fill the void."
The next step is for Test Valley's Cabinet to make a recommendation for the Full Council on the 30th July.
They'll weigh up the results of the survey and decide whether the Town Council would be appropriate for people living in Andover.
Here are the results:
